Matteo Giacomo Di Castelnuovo
Associate Professor of Practice

Biography
Matteo Di Castelnuovo is Associate Professor of Practice in Sustainability at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He is also the Director of the Africa Lab and Director of the Master in Sustainability and Energy Management (MaSEM) at Bocconi University and Director of the Master in Sustainability Management (MSM) at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He teaches Energy Economics and Microeconomics both at SDA Bocconi School of Management and Bocconi University.
At SDA Bocconi, he has directed several programs for senior executives in leading energy and financial firms. He is Program Director of the Enel Green Power School of Business Development and of the Enel Green Power School of Engineering & Construction. He conducted numerous research, training and consulting projects with Credit Suisse, Enel, EDF, Edison, Eni, Italgas, RTE, Shell, Snam, UBI and many others. He frequently delivers seminars to senior executives on energy and climate scenarios and strategies. Prior to going back to academia in 2004, he has worked for a few years as a strategic energy consultant in the UK. He lectured at Imperial College London, London Business School and Politecnico Milano.
Matteo has over twenty years of experience working on energy markets and technologies. His research interest focus on energy economics, regulation, market design, liberalization, energy and climate policy, low-carbon technologies, utilities strategy, energy access in developing countries, sustainable mobility and the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries.
He is the author of numerous books and articles on the subject. His work has been published in Energy Policy Journal, European Energy & Climate Journal, International Journal of Global Energy Issues, Economia & Management, among others. He sits in the editorial board of the European Energy & Climate Journal. In 2010 he received a Jean Monnet Fellowship. He has presented at several national and international conferences. He is the faculty representative in the Energy and Utilities Topic within the Bocconi Alumni Community. As an expert on climate and energy issues, his name has appered several times on national media and he is often interviewed by the press.
He holds a PhD in Energy Economics from Imperial College London, a MSc in Environmental Technology/Environmental Economics from Imperial College London and a degree in Economics from Bocconi University.
