Sustainability Lab

Sustainability as a strategy to stimulate sustainable and lasting economic growth. The SDA Bocconi Sustainability Lab considers the needs of stakeholders and companies, and acts as a point of reference for innovative solutions aimed at market operators, institutions and civil society for creating long term sustainable values.

At a time when the globalization process and current social and environmental changes are forcing businesses to radically rethink their future, the Sustainability Lab offers pragmatic and concrete guidelines to investors and organizations.

Why Sustainability Lab?

Benefiting from in depth scientific research activities, the SDA Bocconi Sustainability Lab aims to develop and disseminate strategic information that allows companies to maintain and review the current and future market positioning of their business from a sustainability perspective.

The Sustainability Lab is based on three main activities:
- supporting businesses in adapting to a changing environment (market, regulatory system, stakeholder expectations)
- providing economic operators with relevant information with the goal of providing useful tools for guiding current and future strategies
- identifying and recommending lasting and sustainable growth processes at a time when supporting the enterprise system means promoting the entire country system.

The activities

The Sustainability Lab - directed by FRANCESCO PERRINI - operates in four main areas:

Sustainable strategies and practices
Coordinator: Valentina Perissinotto
In a scenario where ongoing global changes in the economic, social and environmental fabric are testing the limits of the Planet.

Sustainable blue economy
Coordinator: Stephen Pogutz
The ocean, seas, and coasts provide a source of ecoservices (e.g., fisheries, oxygen production, CO2 absorption, and climate regulation) that underlie our social and economic well-being.

Energy transition
Coordinator: Matteo Di Castelnuovo
Energy plays a key role in every country's sustainable development and is a pivotal issue in achieving many of the seventeen SDGs.

Social Entrepreneurship & Philanthropy
Coordinator: Francesco Perrini
National and international dynamics in the nonprofit sector reveal an increase in competitive pressure and management complexity, calling for more coherent models of intervention, seeking appropriate solutions to complex social problems. The Lab supports high social impact organizations interested in strengthening their responsiveness, through the improvement of decision-making processes related to resource allocation, the management of dialogue with internal and external stakeholders, up to the development of measurement tools capable of highlighting, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the effectiveness in the creation of social and economic value related to the main areas of impact of the change projects put in place.
