Monitor for Furniture Pact

Furniture Pact for the Italian wood-furniture supply chain

In a context where ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) issues are becoming an increasingly important driver, sustainability represents a source of new opportunities for growth and innovation to intercept market demands, enhancing the value of past efforts and setting out on a path that can generate more value for businesses, the community and the environment.

To do this well in the years to come, there needs to be cooperation among enterprises along the supply chain.
It is cooperative mechanisms, in fact, that make it possible to achieve not only efficiency gains at the ESG level, but also positive leaps forward in effectiveness on the same front.
At the same time, inclusive cooperation in which we all move together acting for the best, within a continuous constructive discussion, is the right way to improve all together in terms of sustainability and circularity.
This is what the Furniture Pact is for.

Mission

The goal of the Pact is to create an ecosystem of companies committed to the path to sustainability by signing concrete, ambitious but achievable commitments, steadily reducing their environmental and social impacts on the one hand, scaling up shared value creation along the materials and circularity supply chain on the other.

Activities

The signatory companies intend to take a leadership role, driving the transformations needed to meet the challenges of sustainability, promoting change individually in their own value chain, and collectively along the supply chain and in their relationships with different stakeholders, on the other hand.

In particular, and in addition to the activities already underway, each member company commits to adopt an integrated sustainability strategy by 2025, approved by the company's highest decision-making body, including a prospective plan for managing environmental and social aspects, and the appropriate tools and processes for collecting and reporting relevant data and information according to the most accredited international standards.

The Furniture Pact is based on the collective commitment of the signatories, and contains the following goals that signatory companies commit to achieve to the best of their ability, adopting courses of action best suited to their business strategies and processes.

Eco-efficiency

Product sustainability

  • For new products, adopt by 2025 structured principles of eco-design, circularity and quality at all stages of the product life cycle (e.g., material sourcing, processing, transportation, use, end of life).

  • Obtain by 2025 for at least 80 % of the products in the portfolio, certifications aimed at highlighting relevant environmental and social aspects, e.g., in the areas of circularity, energy efficiency, impact throughout the product life cycle, and safety, taking into account the type of product made.

  • Establish a closer dialogue with consumers/customers to increase awareness of environmental dimensions related to the manufacturing, use and end-of-life phases of products, helping to define behaviors that reduce impacts and extend the useful life of products.

Circularity and up-cycling

  • Promote cooperative mechanisms among Furniture Pact member companies aimed at increasing synergies regarding materials used along the supply chain (e.g., wood, plastics, glues, etc.) with a view to circularity of materials (vertical recycling in the supply chain and future degree of recyclability) and up-cycling of the product at the end of life (product traceability and disassemblability of components at the end of life)

  • Prioritize materials with low environmental impact by using materials, semi-finished products, packaging from regenerative circuits or from controlled and certified sources by 2025, without negatively affecting other aspects of sustainability

  • Achieve a percentage of at least 95 % of waste products and production waste going to recycling or recovery programs by 2025, committing to a "zero waste to landfill" goal by 2030

Persone

  • Adopt, by 2025, a policy approved by the highest corporate decision-making body, on equal opportunity, diversity, inclusion

  • Promote, within the company, and along the value chain, the principles of fairness, inclusion, equal opportunity, valuing diversity, and eliminating all forms of discrimination

  • Promote, within the company, and along the value chain, respectful and safe work practices in line with the most advanced standards of labor in respect of human rights

  • Provide opportunities for personal and professional development for all employees and collaborators, including through the establishment of continuous training and refresher courses in the workplace
